|Showcases from several local up-and-coming bands.
Note: This is an *all ages* show. Bring your family and friends to cheer on these great local bands.
|A fun-loviní, high-octane bluegrass band, the Bay Island Ramblers feature fine old-time music and originals in their repetoire, with some traditional bluegrass, some not-so-traditional chestnuts, and some country songs to round things out. The band features Lanie Anderson-Barret who started out in the band singing lead and harmony and playing guitar, but has recently migrated to the bass; Mark Berkley who sings lead and harmony and provides solid guitar pickiní with a penchant for minor chords; Tom Biggs whose bango playing is grounded in the traditional bluegrass style with a little Don Reno flair thrown in from time to time, and big-hearted, soft-spoken Ken Smith on mandolin, lead and harmony vocals, who previously played for the highly-regarded Bay Area group The Avocado Brothers. |
|The Harkenbacks (Brother Paul Harkenback (McElwee)fiddle, mandolin, voice; Sister Corry Jo Harkenback (Dodson)guitar and voice, songwriter; Brother Jeremiah Harkenback (Steinmeier)upright bass, voice; Brother Alex Harkenback (Cory) management, creative director, songwriter) just sent us a letter:
It's been a long, hard winter in our ramshackle studio hideaway. The rains forced us inside for quite a spell, making even the simplest outings a major ordeal (what, with those wooden instruments and all that...). In the meantime, we wiled away the hours, mending our breeches, patching the leaks, and working on some of Uncle Alex's old favorites. Corry Jo spun yarns about life during the early 1800s, and we all enjoyed a bit of homemade jug wine! There were a few bright spots during our winter hibernation, however. We're proud to announce that Brother Jeremiah has fathered the new littlest Harkenback, Miss Aimee Lou! She's cute as a daisy and feisty as a billy goat! Thanks to the tireless efforts of cousin "Silver" Jean at the telephone, we've managed to land ourselves some fancy appearances at some of the finest venues in town! We're champing at the bit to perform our latest tunes!|
|Old Tunnel Road: Bluegrass, Newgrass, Oldgrass, and Everything In Between! Our music is as varied as the expressions on our faces and covers a little bit of loving, some gospel, loose women, looser men, and a whole lotta fun. Featuring: Geoff Sargent (dobro, vocals), TJ Carskadon (mandolin, vocals), Curtis Young (guitar, vocals), Fred Cone (bass, vocals), Scott Peterson (freling banjo, fiddle, vocals). And check out our website at Old Tunnel Road.|
|Heroes for Ghosts was recently formed in the Take the Stage series at Freight and Salvage. They play a mixture of Bluegrass, Country, and whatever other kinds of music they can wrangle. They feature Bev Crane--guitar and vocals, Steve Eckert--mandolin and vocals, Veevi Rosenstein--guitar and vocals, Jon Steel--bass, Eric Jaeger--guitar, dobro and vocals and Milton McClaskey on mandolin and vocals. |
