Fabulous Duos Sunday, February 21, 2010
Velo Rouge Cafe 798 Arguello Boulevard San Francisco, CA map www.velorougecafe.com Show 1:00 pm
| | Jeannie & Chuck Poling play acoustic bluegrass and music inspired by country music’s golden age of the 1940s–60s. Their signature sound is Jeannie's voice — as sweet as Kentucky bourbon, as big as the Montana sky, and as clear as a Colorado mountain stream. Not bad for a nice Jewish girl from Long Island. She gets her recipes from Patsy, Loretta, and Tammy, but has her own way of serving up country dishes.
Chuck was born and raised in San Francisco and developed a severe country music habit starting back in the 1970s. In addition to performing with the Roundup, he emcees bluegrass and country music shows and is a representative of the California Bluegrass Association. Jeannie and Chuck also perform with their band, the Country Roundup. Since 2001 they have been hosting the Bluegrass Country jam at the Plough & Stars in San Francisco every first Wednesday of the month.
| Keystone Crossing is a duo from Marin County that features just two guitars and two voices. Larry Carlin has been playing bass in country and bluegrass bands for the past 30 years, and Claudia Hampe sang harmony for many years in folk and country bands. Their angelic harmonies hearken back to the early days of country and bluegrass music, as they sing songs of the famous brother duos of that era – The Delmore, Louvin, and Everly Brothers.
| The Courtney Janes are a duo from Marin County that believe music should always be played from the heart. Dennis Haneda has been strumming and singing his songs around the San Francisco Bay Area for all of his life. Ben Hulan describes himself as a "Virginian songwriter in California." Both Ben and Dennis have played and recorded in various groups over the years, ranging from folk and bluegrass to rock n' roll. Grounded in acoustic folk and colored with the electric guitar and mandolin, The Courtney Janes have an exciting sound all their own.
