In a special SFBOT Valentine's Day edition of Paul Knight & Friends, Paul will be playing with Heartstrings members Melissa Nygrea (vocals, guitar), Eliza Doyle (vocals, banjo), and a special guest soloist. Melissa & Eliza are making their first trip to California from Canada where they have performed their alt-country-roots music for over a decade with their band Heartstrings.

Paul Knight has been putting together impromptu groups out of the Bay Area's abundance of talented musicians for his Sunday evening sessions for the past four years. In the cozy setting of the Station House Cafť bar in beautiful downtown Pt. Reyes Station, they sit down together and try anything that comes to mind, from original songs to traditional classics.

The Heartstrings are fronted by Melissa Nygren and Eliza Doyle. The combination of Melissa's classic sweet vocal's, trade-mark guitar style and Eliza's impressive banjo picking and stage presence will leave you wanting more. These intelligent and experienced prairie songstresses have never hesitated to spread their music to audiences in a journey thatís taken them from the back porch to big stages in more than a decade of writing, performing, and collaborating.

Since itís release in 2007, the Heartstrings' self-titled debut has gained much deserved popularity. This collection of upbeat country tunes and dramatic eerie ballads is a colourful display of Melissa Nygrenís original creations. Their second album, In A Land Far Away That Is Fair, 2009, is a great landscape of rolling harmonies, and powerful lyrics combined with intertwined melodies. An organic brand of alt-country-roots music is what the Heartstrings deliver. Whether you are listening to the albums or catching their live shows, be prepared to have your heart warmed and your imagination enlightened. Band members include Melissa Nygren (vocals, guitar), Eliza Doyle (vocals, banjo), Joseph Lorer (vocals, bass), Lucas Goetz (Pedal Steel), Scott Zdunich (percussion).
