Montana Slim String Band   Montana Slim Stringband (MSSB) is an emerging progressive stringband from San Francisco that deliver invigorating live performances peppered with dueling melodic fiddle, mandolin and acoustic guitar improvisation. Passionate vocal harmonies, reflective lyrical tales, and solid foundational bass rhythms are trademarks of MSSBís original youthful interpretation of bluegrass. MSSB is a high energy four-piece stringband and now with their first full length LP, Slim Pickins, released in 2009. The band features Sean(lead acoustic guitar/vocals, Brent(mandolin/vocals), Turi- (fiddle/vocals), Jesse(acoustic rhythm guitar/vocals), and Dave (upright Bass).

The word is getting around about 49 Special. The San Francisco-based bluegrass quartet surprised a lot of folks when they won the prestigious Rockygrass band competition in July of 2009. But it wasnít a surprise to their legions of followers in the Bay Area who enthusiastically support this band of young, energetic, and remarkably talented musicians. Danny Booth, Jim Chayka, Alisa Rose, and Tyson Alteri have put together a sound that combines tradition with freshness and honors the first generation masters while clearly making a statement that theyíve got something to bring to the genre themselves. All the basic ingredients of good bluegrass are there Ė driving rhythm, soaring fiddling, hot picking, sweet, tight harmonies, and nimble choreography around the single mic. But what really puts them over with a crowd is the passion and excitement they express through their music. Itís spontaneous, itís intense, itís simply joyful.

Bucky Walters   The name may sound like some folk legend or a retired baseball player, but Bucky Walters is in fact an up-and-coming band hailing from the soggy bottoms of Arcata, California. The sound of this young acoustic sextet has a nostalgic bluegrass vibe that maintains a fresh, hot-pickiní intensity, attracting music lovers across the board. Since their establishment in 2005, The Bucky Walters (as the band is sometimes known) has performed countless shows in northern California, sharing the bill with artists such as The Blue Turtle Seduction, Hot Buttered Rum, Jimmy Ibbotson (of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), Greensky Bluegrass, Mike Marshall, Joe Craven, Laurie Lewis, Todd Phillips, Peter Rowan, and David Grisman. The Bucky Walters features Bryan "Hot Licks" Osper (guitar, vocals), Josh Boronkay (big bass, vocals), Joey Goforth (banjo, vocals), Kaleb Duncan ( dobro, fiddle, vocals), Niko Daoussis (mandolin, vocals), and Kat Fountain (harmonica).
