Sunday, February 16 All Wrecked Up Critical Grass @ 8 pm - $10
Local favorites All Wrecked Up (Matt Knoth, Christa Dahlstrom, Mike Brown, Chris Ereneta) have undergone some changes this past year, shedding much of their honky tonk skin for a more focused fusion of bluegrass and old-time mountain music. And with the addition of Annie Staninec on fiddle, the older (and rarer) repertoire is gaining a distinctively new edge, one that at times sounds like rock 'n' roll. Mississippi native Cliff Wagner attended Berklee College of Music in Boston (where he eked out a living playing traditional music in the subway), and later played in NYC's Drinkin' and Cheatin' (with Bad Livers alum Bob Grant). In The Old #7 Wagner plays banjo and fiddle and sings lead, with support from Jesse Harris (guitar, tenor vocals), and Patrick Sauber (mandolin, banjo, accordion). The band's three-part harmonies and driving instrumentals are soaked in traditional mountain bluegrass, with a touch of honky tonk and Delta Blues. Four guys in chairs might not match some people's image of the "most fun, authentic old-time string band in the West", but you'll quickly forget that The Roadoilers are seated when you can't keep from dancing. John Pedersen, Perry Fly, Chuck Wiley, and Mike Drayton have more than 160 years of collective experience playing old-time and bluegrass music, much of it together (in other combinations).
