Wednesday, February 12 Jimbo Trout & The Fish People The Plough and Stars, San Francisco 8:30 pm - $10
For the third year in a row, Jimbo Trout & The Fishpeople bring to the SFBOT Festival their rollicking old-time fusion of country, bluegrass, blues and ragtime jazz. The ubiquitous Jimbo Trout leads the band on guitar, banjo, wisecracks and kazoo, along with Jimmy Sweetwater on harmonica and washboard, Handsome Steve Neil on the doghouse bass, plus Mark Kronar (Dark Hollow) on fiddle. They perform original and traditional songs, along with footstomping renditions of songs by the likes of Hank Williams, Fats Waller, Blind Blake, Dwight Yoakam, Duke Ellington and Jimmie Rodgers. Known for putting the "dish" in traditional, Belle Monroe and Her Brewglass Boys deliver traditional and familiar songs alongside obscure selections you'd never expect a bluegrass outfit to attempt. Belle Monroe has been winning audiences around the world with her strong, bluesy bluegrass and swing vocal style. Belle and her Boys wowed the crowd at Strictly Bluegrass 2 this past October. The Brewglass Boys are Ted Silverman (mandolin), Tom Drohan (bass), Rick Hendricks (steel guitar), Jordan Klein (banjo) and Diana Greenberg (fiddle). Back for their second SFBOT Festival is Philboyd Studge--Matt Henry Cunitz on guitar, Peter Seith on banjo, Paul Finocchiaro and mandolin, Steve Adams on bass, and Alisa Rose on fiddle—with four and five-part harmonies and an earthy, down-home style they call "California Kitchen" bluegrass.
