The Earl White Band
The Flat Mountain Girls
How You Duo Trio

Critical Grass @
The Hotel Utah Saloon, San Francisco

8 pm - $10
General Admission. 21 and over.

The Hotel Utah, home of Critical Grass and The Brokedown Opry, presents three events during the 2003 SFBOT Festival, starting with this terrific trio of old-time bands.

The Earl White Band returns for its third SFBOT Festival. Fiddler White is known for his energetic, driving, nearly trance-inducing style, as well as his arsenal of unusual tunes. Early in his career he was a founding member of the Green Grass Cloggers, with whom he created the clog step known as “The Earl”. The band features Dan Warrick on guitar, Brendan Doyle on banjo, and Martha Hawthorne on bass and harmony vocals.

With a passion for the music, an ear for sweet harmony, and an eye for old-fashioned country showmanship, The Flat Mountain Girls bring their old-time singing, yodeling and clog dancing act to town. This past year the Portland Tribune called this trio “one of the busiest bands on the Portland old-time circuit.” Lisa Marsicek, Caroline Oakley, and Rachel Gold accompany themselves on fiddle, banjo and guitar, playing a mix of old-time fiddle tunes and songs from the early days of country music.

Fresh on the scene, How You Duo Trio serves up a tasty blend of Old-Time, Bluegrass and Country B-sides that make you hungry for more. With Allegra Yellin (guitar), Michael Follstad (mandolin, fiddle), and Evie Ladin (clawhammer banjo), Ęthe trio performs tight, penetrating harmonies over percussive instrumental accompaniment and blistering leads. Rowdy, danceable, and bent toward the good timer, HYDT makes noisy bar crowds shut up and listen, or get up and dance.
