Modern Hicks
Donner Mountain Bluegrass Band
The Circle R Boys

Atlas Cafe, San Francisco

3 pm - free!
General admission. All ages.

The Modern Hicks play soulful country, traditional and modern bluegrass, and lilting Western swing with pleasing vocal harmonies. Based in Santa Rosa, the Modern Hicks are Kevin Russell, Layne Bowen, Gina Blaber, Craig Anderson, and Tom Sours. They have performed at the CBA Grass Valley Festival, the NCBS Good Old Fashioned Festival and Strawberry Festival.

Coming down from the Sierras are the Donner Mountain Bluegrass Band, a young, hard-driving trio comprised of Tom Kingsley (mandolin), Tom Davies (guitar), and Dave Gooding (bass). Joining them for this performance is San Francisco's teenage fiery fiddler Annie Staninec (All Wrecked Up, West of Kentucky), making this the youngest--and quite possibly the fastest--band in the Fest.

Drawing on the strong influence of Kentucky Colonels' guitarist Clarence White, and bluegrass pioneers Flatt & Scruggs, The Circle R Boys blend solid acoustic instrumentation with strong vocal harmonies. Band members Bob Waller, Steve Pottier (The Earl Brothers), Paul Bernstein, and Josh Hadley have a combined total of more than 70 years of musical experience.
